Paranormal Hunt, Western NC

Updated: Feb 12, 2020

This past weekend my paranormal group and side project, Hickory Occult & Paranormal Society, searched Western NC for places to investigate. We were lucky to find quite a few incredibly interesting places. Some more accepting than others. The mountains of North Carolina are overflowing with paranormal instances and allegedly haunted places.

The first place we went was unplanned, we were heading to Asheville, and based off some random internet research, we saw that Black mountain has it's own haunted tour during October. Black mountain is small town America that has been turned into a millenial destination. We got out of the car to check out the old downtown and within eye sight there was a hemp shop, a pub, coffee house so yea. lol What we did not expect is a cultural arts center we decided to stop in.

The arts center offered some information regarding their building. Leading us to discover their lower floor used to be the town jail. We were invited back to do a full scale investigation, as we did get a little bit of evidence while we were there. Emf hits, battery draining, distortions to the sb7. All good stuff. So hopefully more on that in the future.

From there we moved onto Asheville. we only had a day to check out and get our names out there which was our main goal. We went to places like the Thomas Wolfe Memorial who quickly dismissed us as they were not interested in pursuing investigations. The next place we went However, was well noted to be haunted was Old Riverside Cemetery.

Riverside Cemetery is an amazing sight. Tons of old mausoleums, and graves, many dating back to the 1800's. One thing we noticed was quite a few masons given the symbols and sigils on some of the sights. the entire place has a haunting feel about it, as we pull in a group of crows welcomed us, like a scene from a movie.

The plan was to get a feel for the area, check for emf, and use the Estes method to make contact with any willing spirits. Sadly the wind saw to it that our evidence with the sb7 was to muddled. Hopefully on our next trip things will work more in our favor. EMF's were also inconclusive, and we plan to have a few more detectors for our next attempt.

The next stop I will mention quickly was the Balsom Mountain inn, or the Grand ole lady hotel as it is also known. Was sadly closed for the season but we did get to check out the grounds and surrounding area. The hotel is known for having at least 2 rooms that seem to be haunted, and pulling up it is easy to get the feeling that this could be true. We got the date of re-opening and plan to stay overnight in at least one of the rooms in the coming months.

We certainly hoped for more investigating on our trip but we were lucky to get our feet in the door for future ones as well. We plan to go for the town of Black Mountain, Riverside Cemetery again, the Grand ole Lady Hotel, and once it warms up, the Brown mountain Lights.
