Fairy Tales- Outlandish Fae Legends

Throughout history there have been legends passed down through the generations. No matter where you are on Earth, it seems humans have brought legends of the "Hidden People." Whether elves, gnomes, goblins, or even bigfoot. These legends have grown with us and have followed us always.

Some of these legends and tales have only been passed down locally and orally. The exact times, eras, and origins of these legends can be shady at best, so bare with me. However, they have luckily been compiled in modern times in books or the internet. Let's look at a few of the more Outlandish legends!

Note: Before we continue. I would like to announce that my first novel has been published. The ad to the side of the page will take you to the amazon page. It is also

on google books. A war brewing among different kingdoms, old dark magic, massive wars, treachery, werewolves. What is not to enjoy? If you are interested I thank you so much. Hoping it to be the first of a 3-5 part series.

For any of our fans, thank you for your support here and elsewhere!

Okay, enough of that. One of my favorite legends I have come across over the last few years is that of Fairy trees and forts. There are plenty of stories passed down regarding these sacred sites. One legend I have personally told young family members is that of a farmer who chose to chop down a fairy tree. While there are multiple kinds, one of which are Holly Trees.

Holly trees have been seen as magic or sacred for hundreds of years. Hence the term :The magic of Hollywood." This story states that a farmer who was unhappy with one of said trees in on his property wanted it removed. He proceeded to chop down the tree and think nothing of the local villagers warning him against such actions.

After a peaceful night sleep however, the famer awoke to find his head now sat backwards upon his shoulders! While that one is certainly outlandish, it has come in handy as a fairy tale to tell the youth! Fairy Forts are also known for these types of events. Stone circles, small forts, and even circles of mushrooms can be homes to the Fae, thus they protect them adamantly.

Another story tells of a group of soldiers hundreds of years ago had set up camp just outside one of these fairy forts. Seeing this as a direct threat, the Fae attacked. The men reported that night that they were besieged by a group of small humans. They brandished pitchforks and torches and had shocked the men so badly, they gathered what they could and ran from the site, never to return.

A quick note on a small legend that has to be added. There is a story regarding a Jealous Fairy queen who fell for a human male. The queen was upset when the man chose to marry a human woman.

She vowed to take one of them away to the fairy world, never to be seen again. On their wedding day however, the bride and groom were prepared. The bride and groom had multiple people dress similar to them and stand by their side.

This confused the Fairy Queen, as she did not know who to take. Allegedly this is the origin of the bridesmaid and groomsmen in weddings. Again, It sounds outlandish, but what a great tale.

Our final legend we will look at is another that is shrouded in mystery. The origin of this tale allegedly comes from Icelandic legend, but was thought to be Christianized by early Churches as the spread through the regions. It is also said to be part of the Judaic Bible, as well as a possible original Grimm Fairy tale. It speaks of the beginning of the Fae, the creation of the "Hidden world", I have called it before.

The tale states that the fae were created due to the sins of Eve. Adam and Eve were living with their children. One day God came to see them. Eve, who was bathing her children but had not finished, chose to hide the unclean children from God, and only present the cleaned children before the Lord. God being God saw through this ruse however.

God said to Adam and Eve. "Since you have hidden the children from me, so shall I hide them from you." So God made the unclean children "invisible" and they went out into the hills, the valleys, and the caves to live. This being one of the most incredible origin stories for the fae known today.

This legend ties in with multiple other mythical beings as well. The Djinn, much thought to be shadow people, are said to have been the original inhabitants of earth. They were pushed into the unclean places, the dark, the caves, by the growing human population. Thus they are hidden from our sight, and are jealous at what we have been given.

Whether you subscribe to these or any other legends regarding the Fae. It goes without saying that these tales have always been with us. Like luggage brought along on a road trip. Whether written or passed down vocally, every group of peoples on the planet has some story regarding beings of this nature. It is, other than Gods, one of the most prevailing things throughout human history. They cannot all be just stories...Can they?
